This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel generally limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

Purpose

The Data Modeler for the UT Data Hub will improve university outcomes and advances the UT mission to transform lives for the benefit of society by increasing the usability and value of institutional data. The Data Modeler will also work closely with team members and data subject matter experts (SMEs) from various data domains, including but not limiting to finance, student/academic, and information technology to fully understand the semantics, taxonomy, cardinality of data and translate them into appropriate data models by following established documentation standards. The Data Modeler leverages their creativity to solve complex problems and build effective relationships through open communication.

Responsibilities

Data Modeling:


  • Design conceptual data models that align with functional requirements
  • Design logical data models that define entities, attributes, key groups, and relationships
  • Participate in strategic data management planning and implementation
  • Adapt data models as business requirements evolve
  • Assist in creating data domain conceptual models
  • Assist in the validation of modeled data
  • Publish documentation and provide training of data models to developers and business analysts.

Communication & Collaboration:


  • Collaborate with team members and SMEs to understand functional requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience. Three years of experience with dimensional data modeling methodology. Three years of experience with Erwin or comparable data modeling tools. Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. Experience with data profiling techniques and tools. Solid understanding of database design concepts and data structures. Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving. Team player, comfortable communicating cross-functionally and across management levels. Self-motivated and able to organize work independently in a rapidly changing environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with reporting/analysis tools such as IBM Cognos, Business Objects, Tableau, AWS Quicksight, etc. Experience with academic, financial, and administrative data domains within a higher education setting. Experience with data models in big data environments. Experience migrating dimensional data models to cloud data warehouse services. AWS certification. Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance processes, test case development and execution. Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (Kanban, Scrum). Experience with issue tracking systems (JIRA).

Salary

$101,538+ depending on qualifications

  • Location up to 100% remote at employee discretion with office work environment also an option. Majority of team is located in Austin, TX, and working remotely with infrequent in-office presence.
