Engineer A, B, or C (Project Connect - Utility Relocations)

The Austin Water Department and the Project Connect Office are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team. This position will work within the Austin Water Department to support the mission to provide safe, reliable, high-quality, sustainable, and affordable water service to our customers so that all community needs for water are met. This position will also be responsible as the Austin Water liaison for working on Project Connect which is the City’s high-capacity transit system expansion, that includes light rail lines, a downtown subway, an expanded bus system, park and rides, and an all-electric fleet. This is an opportunity to use your technical skills to advance one of the largest high-capacity transit projects as the technical expert representing the Austin Water Department.


This position will support Project Connect by coordinating water, wastewater, reclaimed water systems with Austin Transit Partnership consultants and staff, reviewing plan sets, reviewing models, and developing water utility asset management needs and assessments associated with Project Connect. Other duties may include leadership by sponsoring Capital Improvement program (CIP) projects related to water utility improvements, developing models, conducting technical reviews, and assisting other engineering staff with the final design and construction phases of CIP projects. This position may also assist with efforts to identify and prioritize potential projects and activities for the section.


Candidates should be experienced working independently in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Additionally, candidates should have strong organizational skills, be self-motivated, be able to approach a challenge with an open mind, identify possible solutions, provide a professional recommendation, and execute tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer A:


Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer


Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas



Engineer B:


Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years experience in engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.



Engineer C:


Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in capital improvement project planning and management including working successfully with state and local governmental agencies and departments in underground utility design and construction involving major road reconstruction and relocation of water and wastewater lines along State Highways and County roads.
  • Experience regularly interacting with different levels of personnel throughout an organization and adapting communication styles to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities and collaborating effectively with other departments or units within an organization to meet business objectives.
  • Experience with technical writing and communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in project management and sponsorship, overseeing projects related to design, construction and rehabilitation of water and wastewater lines.
  • Experience in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.



Pay Range

A – $34.86 – $44.45

B – $36.95 – $47.12

C – $38.78 – $50.42


Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility.
