Graduate Engineer A, B, or Engineer A, B, or C (SCADA Engineering and Support)

Location: Waller Creek Center 625 E. 10th St. Austin, TX 78701


Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

This is an Essential Position, requiring on-call availability on a rotating basis and mandatory service in certain situations, which will include nights, weekends and holidays.


Pay:

  • Graduate Engineer A: $29.69 to $38.59 per hour
  • Graduate Engineer B: $31.47 to $40.91 per hour
  • Engineer A: $33.36 to $43.36 per hour
  • Engineer B: $35.36 to $45.96 per hour
  • Engineer C: $37.12 to $49.18 per hour


Position Overview:

This Engineer position is part of the Engineering and Control group within the SCADA Engineering and Support Division at Austin Water. That group is responsible for providing input to the CIP process related to the Utility’s SCADA systems, and for implementing in-house upgrades to the SCADA systems. The ideal candidate should have experience with review or development of SCADA system design and network system design, delivering CIP infrastructure projects, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, and have skills in the support and troubleshooting of SCADA systems. This position will participate in the review of SCADA system designs developed by Engineers and Contractors on multiple concurrent projects, to ensure that AW SCADA standards are being applied with respect to equipment selection, network connectivity, and programming standards. Strong collaboration and organization skills are needed to coordinate and/or lead the work of Austin Water teams and contractors. Strong communication skills are needed to constructively implement SCADA policies and standards. Strong writing and documentation skills are needed to accurately describe modifications to design documents.


Minimum Qualifications: The position will be filled at one of the following levels:


Graduate Engineer A:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: None.


Graduate Engineer B:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Texas: Engineer - In Training Certification.


Engineer A:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas


Engineer B:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years experience in engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas


Engineer C:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas


Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Software, Controls or related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing and/or performing technical reviews of design documents (plans and specifications) for construction. and new installation projects associated with SCADA systems.
  • Experience managing projects related to SCADA Systems design and construction.
  • Experience with start-up and commissioning of SCADA related projects.
  • Experience programming and configuring process control (SCADA) systems, including experience with Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and/or Remote Terminal Units (RTU).
  • Experience supporting and/or troubleshooting process control systems (SCADA) and control system instrument loops.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
