  • Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification.

 

Engineer A

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

 

Position Overview:

The Water Resources Team in the Systems Planning Division is responsible for managing the City’s water rights and water supply contracts, performing water supply analyses, leading the development and facilitating implementation of long-range water resource plans (including Water Forward, Austin’s 100-year Integrated Water Resource Plan), participating in the regional water supply planning process, supporting the City’s partnership with the LCRA, and participating in a number of related efforts including climate resiliency initiatives, innovative water strategies, social equity and affordability efforts, and environmental stewardship initiatives.

 

Working as a part of the Water Resources Team, key duties of this position include:

  • Water supply, water distribution, and wastewater collection infrastructure system analysis and planning activities, potentially to include hydraulic modeling, alternative analysis, planning, and prioritization of infrastructure projects
  • Using GIS for system analysis and mapping. Integrating GIS datasets with hydraulic models as necessary and maintaining relevant GIS datasets.
  • Using hydraulic models and technical skills to optimize water supply system operation.
  • Coordination activities with a variety of internal stakeholders, including the Systems Planning, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Infrastructure Planning Teams as well as other Austin Water planning, engineering, and operations workgroups.

 

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

  • Graduate Engineer A: $31.65 to $39.56 per hour
  • Graduate Engineer B: $32.89 to $41.93 per hour
  • Engineer A: $34.86 to $44.45 per hour

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering.
  • Experience with water supply, water distribution, and wastewater collection system analysis and planning.
  • Experience using ArcGIS to create, edit, analyze, and visualize geospatial data.
  • Strong understanding and comprehension of fluid hydraulics and experience with hydraulic analysis.
  • Experience with water supply, water distribution, and wastewater collection system infrastructure planning in the context of climate change adaptation, community resilience, racial equity, and environmental justice.
  • Experience identifying and building collaborative relationships with diverse individuals, groups, and work units for successful project or program implementation
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
