YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ Office of Legal Services team, you will support to one of the divisions, General Law, Environmental Law, or Litigation.

What You Will DO

TCEQ Legal Secretary positions play key roles in supporting their respective teams using your skills and experience to:

1.      Proofreads, edits, formats, and prepares documents in accordance with TCEQ accessibility guidelines and other requirements. 

2.      Prepares documents and correspondence for legal proceedings and for use in the office environment. 

3.      Maintains databases; tracks information; and compiles technical data for reports, correspondence, and legal documents.

4.      Organizes, assembles, and maintains cases, notebooks, files, and records.

5.      May coordinate other administrative support such as scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, reserving meeting facilities, answering phones including the OLS reception phone, and coordinating travel arrangements.

Qualifications - External

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma/GED, plus two years of full-time experience providing clerical or administrative support

OR

· High school diploma/GED, plus one year of full-time experience as a legal secretary.

* Fifteen semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each six months of the required experience.

** 300 clock hours of course work in the clerical field from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school may be substituted for each six months of the required experience.

*** Completion of a legal secretarial curriculum from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school may be substituted for one year of the required experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Knowledge of legal practices and terminology; and of spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, including Word, Excel, and/or Access.

· Ability to transcribe dictation; to maintain confidentiality in legal matters; and to organize and maintain files and records.
