Technical Writer

The Technical Writer will be responsible for:

• Joining an energetic Technical Communications team, with skills in technical writing, multimedia development, and instructional design
• Developing and updating internal and end-user content including manuals, package inserts, quick guides, multimedia, etc. for use and support of Luminex products
• Collaborating with other Luminex teams to write technical product content that simplifies complex concepts, presents information attractively, and maximizes user comprehension and information retention

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Create technical and instructional content, for delivery in various methods (electronic, print, or in the classroom)
• Engage with SMEs to gather product knowledge for efficient development—attend knowledge transfers, and participate in hands-on training. Continually strive to increase knowledge of Luminex technologies and products
• Ensure materials are understandable and functional for the intended audience and aligned with Luminex’s corporate strategy and brand, SOPs, and Technical Communications’ style guides
• Manage multiple priorities with the ability to assess and adjust quickly to the changing scope of the business
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing or related field
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Technical Writing or related field

Training, Skill, and Certification/Licenses

• Strong knowledge of authoring tools, like Adobe FrameMaker, Acrobat Pro, MadCap Flare, Perforce, SnagIt, Microsoft Office, or similar products
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent spelling and grammar, understanding standard revision process, and technical documentation conventions
• Working knowledge of layout/design software like InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar is a plus

Work Conditions

• Must work onsite at Luminex Austin office
• Travel may be required approximately: 5% of the time
• Ability to handle pressure of meeting tight deadlines
• Frequent work as a team member, and in direct contact with others
• Work is normally performed in a typical office environment and in direct content with others
• Possible exposure to mechanical, biological, or chemical hazards
• Physical Demands: All positions require standing, stooping, bending, climbing, sitting, kneeling, and lifting at least 10 lbs, and handling hand tools (manual dexterity)
