Austin Water Treatment Operations and Maintenance Technician Associate or Assistant

(also known as Water Treatment Plant Operator and Mechanic)


This position is responsible for the operations of a water or wastewater treatment plant, as well as the maintenance and repairs of the related equipment.


Minimum Qualifications for the AW Treatment O&M Tech Associate

·        Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in a similar work environment such as process control, plant operations, construction, or in the operation, repair and maintenance of mechanical or industrial equipment

·        Thirty (30) semester hours of relevant formal education from an accredited institute may substitute for one (1) year of work experience

License and Certifications

·        Must acquire a Class D Texas Surface Water License within one (1) year of employment

·        Valid current Texas Class “C” Driver’s License (or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire)

·        Must be able to become certified for Respiratory Protection


Minimum Qualifications for the AW Treatment O&M Tech Assistant

·        Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) year of experience in a work environment such as process control, plant operations, construction, laboratory related activities, repair and maintenance of mechanical or industrial equipment

License and Certifications:

·        Class C Texas Surface Water License from TCEQ

·        Valid current Class C Texas Driver’s License (or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire)

·        Must be able to become certified for Respiratory Protection


About this Position - We are currently hiring in either Associate or Assistant level positions!

·        FY20 Pay Range Depends-On-Experience - must be verifiable and related

·        FY20 Pay Rate for Associate Level is $17.30 to $21.63 ph and Assistant Level is $21.65 to $27.61 ph

·        Plant locations will be determined based on business need for Water or Wastewater Treatment Divisions

·        This job title is in a Career Progression Family, which means the employee can submit for career progression promotion without having to go through the competitive process (the interview)

·        An employee can progress or submit for Career Progression-promotion after completion of on-the-job training to develop new skills and abilities, obtain water operator licensing and have met the minimum requirements to be on the next level position. Associates can career progress to Assistant then to Senior!
