Work Hours:

Work hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday. Occasionally will work additional hours including weekends and holidays. Performs rotating on-call duties related to mainframe Natural software and technical support (24 x 7). Hours may change based on business need.  

This position is eligible for 100% remote working if certain conditions are met. Qualified candidates will be considered for remote working based on several factors, including, but not limited to: geographical proximity, work history, regulatory factors, etc. 


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Work involves overseeing the planning and analysis of system requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing systems. This work includes researching, planning and defining specific procedures for accomplishing a task; developing software requirements and computer equipment requirements to accomplish a goal; developing and implementing complex software changes; maintaining and administering complex computer software systems. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. 

Eight (8) years’ experience with mainframe system software support within a z/OS environment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field is preferred.

•Experience with z/OS DB2

•Experience with CICS with mainframe hardware

•Experience with IBM Systems Software and 3rd party software

•Experience with Mainframe Change Control products (BMC ISPW or equivalent) 

•SAS

•MXG 

•Experience with utility programs and products including: IDCAMS, CLISTS/REXX, SORT, TSO, JCL, and/or WLM 

•Teaching technical issues to developers

•Mainframe software installation techniques and methodologies.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS:

One (1) additional year of experience with z/OS, DB2, or CICS within a z/OS environment may substitute for thirty (30) semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:  

•Oversees and/or participates in the development and execution of enterprise-level strategies and technical direction, including establishing processes and procedures for executing and maintaining technology road maps. 

•Oversees studies and the preparation of reports that include study findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system implementations; formulates logical descriptions of problems; and devises and implements optimum solutions. 

•Oversees projects that cross functional agency systems and other state entities that require coordinating, planning, and scheduling during project development and implementation stages. 

•Oversees the planning and scheduling of studies and system implementations. 

•Oversees the identification of system requirements, the development of functional design specifications to meet requirements, and solutions to complex operational problems, ensuring all documentation is completed

•Oversees and/or conducts the training of staff prior to the implementation of technical and/or computer systems and offers advice and guidance during the implementation process. 

•Oversees and/or conducts tests and diagnoses systems to ensure critical requirements are met. 

•Develops agency computer operations and management information system plans and budgets. 

•Assists with developing and implementing strategic planning actions related to the agency’s systems.

•Assists users and programmers with mainframe software problems, including performance problems

•Communicates any potential problems or benefits of mainframe software changes to management

•Follows agency standards, policies, and guidelines


Mainframe Systems Analysis and Research

•Researches and analyzes IBM mainframe (System z) problems, including mainframe software performance problems, and determine the best course of action to eliminate those problems

•Researches and analyzes mainframe software options and features. Determines which options are optimal for the installation of mainframe software products

•Ensures that installations are compatible with other mainframe software products and/or previous releases

•Verifies that hardware and software products function with any planned mainframe system hardware and software upgrades

•Researches and analyzes new products or mainframe software features to find more efficient or more cost-effective ways to support the business objectives and goals of the agency

•Plans, installs, maintains, upgrades, and administers mainframe system software products and provides documentation for all software changes. 

Work Management

•Participates in budget planning, researching and estimating costs, as needed

•Prepares reports and provides information requested by management

•Identifies and coordinates tasks during an assignment

•Develops methods and plans to accomplish all tasks

•Keeps management informed of work progress and problems

•Performs other duties as assigned

•Performs rotating on-call duties related to Natural and technical support and other mainframe software support (24 x 7)

•Attends, oversees, and/or conducts training as assigned

Disaster Recovery

•Participates in the Disaster Recovery planning process as required

•Participates in the Disaster Recovery Hot site exercises as required

•Updates Disaster Recovery plans and procedures as required

Performs other related duties as needed
