TELEWORK

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ’s Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Waste Permits Division.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a part of the division’s Waste Permits team, our Geoscientist II-IV will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

 

Geoscientist

·    Review and evaluate permit applications, reports, certifications and other submittals for waste management, including regulatory classification and status of waste pursuant to state and federal regulations and statutes for the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) section in the Waste Permits Division for the TCEQ.

·    Conduct geoscientific and other technical reviews and evaluations of highly complex applications, reports, and plans pertaining to waste management; determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, technical principles, policies, and procedures; and process to completion.

·    Provide information concerning authorizations and authorization processes to internal and external customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and public hearings.

·    Assist customers regarding the agency’s waste permits program through verbal communication, correspondence, data reports, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests.

·    Provide training, mentoring, and geoscientific and regulatory expertise to team/section/division and agency staff.

  •  Lead and/or participate in special projects, such as maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOP), rule writing,  bill analysis, guidance document development, and streamlining work processes.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Geoscientist II

·     Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

Geoscientist III

·    Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus seven years of full-time geoscientist experience.  A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

 

OR

 

Career Ladder Progression: Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist II.

 

Geoscientist IV

·    Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus nine years of full-time geoscientific experience.  A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

 

OR

 

Career Ladder Progression: Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist III.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist II-IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist II-IV series.
